The Class of 2024 graduated from Redfield High School on Saturday, May 11th. The auditorium was filled with fans.
Grady Fey and Elijah Morrissette were selected by their peers to speak for the class. They shared memories, as well as advice for the future. The unavoidable, imminent arrival of the future was spoken of.
Choir members heartfully sang “I Hope You Dance.” They were accompanied by Patrick Woods on guitar and Ron Parker on keyboard.
The class was introduced, and instructed to stand.
The be-robed seniors approached the stage a row at a time. Upon hearing their names, each successively stepped up to center stage to receive their diploma. They were congratulated by the school board, the school principal, and the superintendent.
After the ceremony, the seniors walked out to the classic, Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance,” played by the high school band, led by Dylan Unruh. After the new graduates walked through, the crowd oozed out of the auditorium.
The center of the lunch area was packed with graduates, families, friends, and other fans. Joyous voices were heard, and many images were snapped.
The mood was spirited. While one graduate said that he felt “fine,” others had more to say. Their moods were of either excitement or disbelief. One new grad said that it all felt “Surreal – I worked really hard to get here.” Another explained that they felt a bit numb, and that it was probably all going to hit them come Monday when they didn’t have to go to school.
Some verbatim moods: “amazing,” “awesome,” and “good” were sentiments shared.
The class flower was a white peony, and the class colors were white and gold. The class motto was “I’m not here for a long time – I’m here for a good time.”
Many of the new graduates had plans to go on to technical schools or universities. Moving on after graduation from high school will collectively be their first big step into the world. They could each end up just about anywhere from here.
