Don’t Rain on Our Parade

Independence Day celebrations were delayed this year due to potential bad weather. The preceding evening, Wednesday July 3rd, was still filled with excitement. The Fun Drop was held south of the baseball diamond. Later at night, Justin Haider set off a fireworks display east of Redfield.
The main city fireworks display, shot off from Redfield Lake, was held on Friday, July 5th. Fireworks were shot off from several directions. Many bottle rockets and sparklers could also be seen. The finale of the shell fireworks was long and spectacular. It overwhelmed with color and sparkles.
On Saturday, July 6th, the Fourth of July parade eased up Main Street. Many people lined up to watch. Children gleefully scooped up candy that float drivers threw.
After the parade, activities were held in Redfield City Park. Some activities were: a tractor pull for kids; a chance to dip a local law enforcement officer in a dunk tank; rides in the barrel train; oversized Jenga; waterguns; and s’mores.
Despite the weather delays, turnout was good. The mood was one of community and celebration.
