Fun Drop Kicks Off 4th Celebration

The 4th annual Fun Drop, part of the July Fourth celebration sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, was held on Wednesday, July 3rd.
A small plane zoomed over the crowd of excited children and attentive adults. A bunch of colorful ping-pong balls was dropped from the sky. The park area exploded into temporary chaos as kids scrambled to grab a ping-pong ball.
Children ranged in age from infants to early teens. Those aged 10 and under were eligible to get a toy. Finding a rare gold ball meant the recipient could get a bigger prize, such as a hoverboard. Finding a smiley ball meant getting a free airplane ride.
Carisa Giblin, who coordinated the event with Sarah Kimlicka, explained that the toys were donated. She also said that the event has grown. “The first couple of years, we had a couple hundred.” Giblin said. She estimated the 2024 turnout to be close to 300. This year’s celebration also included sno cones. There was a long line for the sno cones.
Giblin said that the event was “very successful.” Her inspiration was personal. She explained that it was done in memory of her mom. “I combined things that she loved.” she said. Many volunteers were required for the event. Everyone’s efforts were appreciated.
