Lois Lorraine Appel, age 100, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, September 15, 2024 from Good Samaritan Society, Canton. Her funeral service will be 10:00 AM on Friday, October 11, 2024 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls, SD with burial at Worthing Cemetery in Worthing, SD.  Her family will be present to greet friends for visitation on Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. 
Lois Lorraine Dickens was born on February 20, 1924 in Worthing, SD to George D. and Myrtle B. (Richardson) Dickens.  She was raised and received her elementary education at Buboltz District #53 and then Lincoln County High School in Worthing, graduating in 1942.   
Lois was united in marriage with Walter G. Appel on June 2, 1943 at the Army Air Base in Sioux Falls, SD.  Lois and Walter were blessed with five children, Kay, Stephen, David, Michael and Patricia. The family made their home in West Sioux Falls, SD in 1964 and then later a farm South of Tea, SD.  Walter passed away on May 12, 2004.  
Lois was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls where she served in various church circles.  She was also a member of the Sioux Falls Chapter of the Parkinsons Disease Support Group.  
Lois enjoyed square dancing, bowling, tending to her gardens, playing board games, traveling, taking long walks and baking.  Above all, she cherished spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lois was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who will be dearly missed.  
Grateful for having shared her life are one daughter, Kay Meyer and her husband, Thomas, Ames, IA; three sons, Stephen Appel and his wife, Phyllis, Lennox, SD, David Appel and his wife, Cheryled, Lennox, SD, and Michael Appel, Madison, WI; eight grandchildren, Justin  Appel and his wife, Debbie, Stephanie Cook and her husband, Darren, Susie Weisenbach and her husband, Tim, Anne Schmidt and her husband, Tony, Paige Appel, Cherith Heuer and her husband, Tommy, Christopher Meyer and Robin Meyer; 12 great-grandchildren, Alexis, Kathryn, Sarah, Macy, Olivia, Jonathon, Jameson, Esperansa, Prescott, Atticus, Dracen and Lilly; three sisters, Geraldine Anderson, Independence, MO, Clara Halls, Duluth, MN and Dorothy Horn, Duluth, MN; many other relatives. 
Lois was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Appel; her husband, Walter Appel; her parents, George and Myrtle Dickens; three brothers, Donald, Marvin and John Dickens; and one sister, Betty Schomer.
