   Shirley Jean (Schroeder) Stellmacher, 94, of Redfield, SD, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024. 

   Visitation will be from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 30, at the Eastern Star Chapel in Redfield and will continue from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield.  A prayer service will follow at 7:00 p.m.

   On Tuesday, September 3, Shirley’s funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Redfield with Pastor Joy Proper officiating.  The committal service will follow the funeral at the Tulare Cemetery in Tulare, SD.  Lunch will then be served in the church fellowship hall. 

   Both the prayer service and funeral service will be live-streamed on the funeral home’s website below Shirley’s obituary.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home (www.hykefuneralhome.com).

   Shirley was born on September 17, 1929, on a farm near Hitchcock, SD, to Henry and Norma (Sims) Schroeder.  She was baptized on October 27, 1929, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Crandon, SD, and was also confirmed there on June 27, 1943.  She attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Redfield High School in 1947.

   On September 3, 1948, she married Herbert Stellmacher in her parent’s home on the farm.  They had three children, Gene (Karlene) Stellmacher, Judy (Rick) Wagner, and Janice (Tim) Robinson. 

   Shirley was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Crandon and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Redfield.  She taught Sunday School and served on many committees in the church.  She also was a member of the Merry Mixer Club and the Loyal Workers Club.  After moving to Redfield, she worked at the Redfield Senior Citizens Center.  Shirley and Herb enjoyed playing cards and belonged to several card groups.  Shirley also enjoyed reading and word search books. 

   Shirley is survived by her husband Herb, three children, eight grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Norma (Sims) Schroeder, and her father Henry Schroeder.
