Loren Emery Shantz, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away on August 19, 2023, in Pierre, SD. Per his wishes there will be no formal services. Loren was born on September 12, 1939, to Emery and Alvira (Deiter) Shantz in Redfield, SD.
   Loren is survived by his wife, Holly Shantz, his children, Gary Shantz of Minneapolis, MN, and Jacki (Dennis) Stemper of Zell, SD. He was a proud grandfather to Jessi (Kirk) Whitley and great-grandfather to Dawson Loren and Aniston. Loren also leaves behind his step-children, Brad Vieth of St. Peter, MN, Dena (Dave) Loher of Anoka, MN, and Paul (Kalla) Vieth of Mitchell, SD, and grandchildren: Whitney, Austin, Adam, and Alex. Loren's siblings, Jerry (Marlene) Shantz of Pierre, David (Eva) Shantz of Monticello, AK, Paul (Gleann) Shantz of Zell, SD, Maryann Pinard of Redfield, and sister-in-law Sharon Shantz of Redfield, also survive him. He was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Shantz.
   Loren's professional life was marked by a dedication to craftsmanship and a strong work ethic. He began his career at Coop Lumber in Redfield and later worked for Cabinets Universal. In 1980, Loren moved to Pierre and joined Christy Lumber, where he continued his cabinet work before becoming the yard manager and estimator. After 22 years of service, he retired, leaving behind a legacy of quality work and dedication.
   Loren was a champion trap shooter, demonstrating precision and patience in every shot. An avid fisherman, Loren could be found casting his line on any day that ended in "y." His love for the outdoors was only matched by his love for his family and friends.
