The funeral service to honor her will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 22, at St. John Lutheran Church, Warner, SD. Pastor Arlyn Rusche will be officiating along with a special message from Julie’s nephew, Pastor Justin Iverson. The burial will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, at the Peever Cemetery, Peever, SD. The visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 21, with family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street, Aberdeen.

Julie was born in Malta, Montana, on July 3, 1953, to Stanley and Carmyn (Currence) Halseide. She graduated in 1971 from Sisseton High School in Sisseton, SD. Thereafter, she attended Lake Area Vocational Technical Institute in Watertown, SD, receiving her Childcare Specialist Certificate in 1973. She began attending Northern State University, Aberdeen, SD, in 1977, graduating in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with minors in Psychology and Criminal Justice. On May 17, 1986, Julie married the love of her life, Dana Streitz. They made their home in Warner, SD, where they raised their two children, Garrett James and Carmyn Rosemary.

Julie had a passion for caring for others. In 1973, she began her 11-year career with the Redfield State Hospital in Redfield, SD, where she also resided and was on the City Council. She held many roles, the last of which was serving as the Program Director for their work therapy program. Julie was very proud of the lives she impacted. From 1984 to 2000, Julie worked in media advertising. Following her career in advertising, she got back to her true passion of caring for others. She named her business “At Your Service” and she helped the elderly between homes in Aberdeen and Warner. Julie had a special bond and adored each person she cared for. After her beloved husband, Dana, passed away in 2016, she began her slow retirement, ending her career in 2018.

Julie had a passion for gardening and flowers…and weeding with her bare hands! She could not walk by a weed without pulling it! Listening to music brought her joy and occasionally shared her skill of yodeling with those around her. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family, including her kids and grandkids. She enjoyed the sunshine, especially at her lake home on Lake Traverse. She loved to cook and bake, antiques, and rummage sales. Julie was always happy, spreading her cheer to all around her. She will be remembered for her bright blue eyes, beautiful smile, and loving heart.

Julie is survived by three children: Garrett (Emily) Streitz of Villard, MN, Carmyn (Matt) Schrank of Garretson, SD, and Dana’s son Brendan (Wendy) Streitz of Flandreau, SD. Eleven grandchildren: Everly, Hazel, and Forrest Streitz; Lane, Lewis, and Lincoln Schrank; Liam, Abe, and Rona Streitz; Mason (Josh) Harter of Richland, WA, Riley McCrea of Girdwood, AK. One great grandson, Colton Harter. Her siblings: Linda (Rick) Sonstegard of Sioux Falls, SD, Gary (Julie) Halseide of Sisseton, SD, Sheryl Hanson of Sisseton, SD, Holly (Kevin) Iverson of Yankton, SD, Becky (Bob) Temple of Glenville, WV, Brett (fiancé Dianna Herzberg) Halseide of Wilmot, SD, and many loving nieces and nephews.
