Irene J. Hahler, 96, passed away on December 21, 2022 in Aberdeen, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM on Thursday December 29, 2022 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, SD. Visitation will be December 28 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Spitzer Funeral Home Fellowship Hall with a Prayer Service at 7:15 pm  

   Irene June Hoegermeier was born on June 18, 1926 to Carl and Frieda(Meyer)Hoegermeier in Aberdeen, South Dakota.  

   She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mansfield.  

Irene attended grade school and junior high at the Evans Country School and attended Aberdeen Central High School in Aberdeen where she graduated in 1944.  

After graduation Irene worked at Feinstein’s clothing store and later at Northwestern Bell Telephone as a switchboard operator. She loved working for the phone company and worked there until 1946.  

   On June 26, 1946 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Hahler at Trinity Lutheran Church rural Mansfield, SD. The couple made their first home on a farm in rural Chelsea, SD. Ken and Irene then moved to Irene’s family farm by Snake Creek rural Mansfield, SD, where they farmed and raised their children. The couple retired from farming and moved into a new home in Mansfield and later moved to Aberdeen, SD. Kenneth passed away on October 19, 2002. In 2012 Irene moved into Davis Court Apartments in Aberdeen, SD.  

   Irene was a member of American Legion Auxilliary, Ladies Circle at Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Church-Mansfield, Volunteer at St. Luke’s/Avera Hospital, Good Sam’s Club,Craft Club, and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church-Aberdeen.  

Irene loved the time spent with her children, she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

   Irene is survived by her sons and their families : James(Marjean) Hahler of Plainview, MN, children Ryan(Kim) Hahler of Minneapolis, MN their children Ella and Kyla; Abbee Hahler (Brent Erhardt)of Rochester, MN; Charles(Jolynn) Hahler of Ashton, SD; children Andrea(Tim) Hahler Brady of Piedmont, SD their children Connor and Anya; Adam(Jennifer)Hahler of Ashton, SD their children Dylan, Aiden and Brailee; Robert(Julie) Hahler of Mansfield, SD, children Nickolas(Elizabeth)Hahler of Aberdeen, SD their children Zoe and Bay; Joshua Hahler of Mansfield, SD; David(Cindy)Hahler of Webster, SD; Travis Hahler(Brian Boyenga) of Dakota Dunes; Chad Hahler(Laura) of Watertown, SD; Mark(Jeanette) Hahler of Aberdeen, SD; their children Lindsey Hahler of Aberdeen, SD; and several nieces and nephews.  

   She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth, daughter Jane , grandsons Eric Hahler and Matthew Hahler, sister and brother in law Merelene and Vernon Haselhorst, sister and brother in law Joanne and Gene Larson, brother in law and sister in law Melvin and Darlene Hahler and nephew Dale Haselhorst.
