Area Residents Glad to Visit Glendale Market

Posted

Glendale Colony held their annual farmer’s market on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 9th and 10th. A stream of area residents had already started arriving before the market opened at 12 p.m. on Friday.

Customers said that they were excited for the market, and that they wished it occurred more often. Colony member Kathleen, who coordinated the event, said that she also wished that it could be done more often. But it would be too much. “It’s a lot of work.” she said. The event took “months” to put together. She said that the work of many people was what made things possible. “Everyone pitches in.” was something that many of the colony members said.

Kathleen said that most of the work seen at the market was done by the women of the colony. She emphasized that they could not have put the market together without the help of the colony’s men.

Some of the items for sale were: pies containing fruit or meat; cookies and breads; frozen chickens; honey and honey products; gift baskets; vegetables such as cucumbers, sweet corn, and onions; and big feather pillows.

Colony members were welcoming to the visitors. A few graciously showed me the kitchen and production areas. The kitchen was described as “where everything starts.” Here the baked goods for the market were made.

Glendale Colony will have a booth at Redfield’s farmer’s market. This will take place on Thursdays in August, at the Depot.
