Teams qualified for State FFA at Northwestern CDE

At Northwestern’s recent Career Development Education event, 2 Redfield teams were able to qualify to compete at the state level. The teams placed 1st in the Poultry division, and 3rd in the Food Science division.
The Poultry team scored 1182 points at the competition. They had to have knowledge on many aspects of poultry quality and grading. Members were: Kevin Weller, Evan Jaton, Eld Blume, and Benson Beckler.

Poultry qualifying team: Elden Blume, Evan Jaton, Benson Beckler, Kevin Weller.

The Food Science team scored 1010 points at the competition. They had several tests and activities to show knowledge in this field. Team members were: Brooklyn Rische, Ella Rude, Chloe Zens, and Karlie Brabant.
Advisor Bradley Cihak said that the competition in Miller on March 28th will be the last chance to qualify. He said that they hope to get more teams qualified to go to the state convention in April.
Cihak explained that this is the 1st year that teams have to qualify. In years past, any team could compete at the state FFA convention. Redfield FFA consists of 7 teams. Per competition rules, teams consist of 4 members. There are also opportunities for individual competitions.
Cihak said that it’s been “a very successful year”. He said “I know that the students are very excited.” The teams hope to advance to Nationals. Cihak said that 4 teams are chosen from each district to go on to the national convention. Redfield also had placers in individual competitions.
