Opal “Joan” (Einsphar) Booze, 88, of Redfield, SD, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Community Memorial Hospital Avera in Redfield.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield.  A prayer service and time of sharing will follow at 7:00 p.m.

Her committal service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 27, at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield.  Pastor Melissa Rowenhorst will officiate.  Lunch and fellowship will follow at Shanty Haven in Redfield.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home (www.hykefuneralhome.com).

Opal “Joan” was born on June 8, 1935, at her family home in Anselmo, NE to Kenneth and Ester (Condron) Einsphar.  Her family moved to Redfield when she was around the age of 8.  She attended and graduated from Redfield High School in 1953.

On July 9, 1953, she married Harold Dean Booze in Redfield. In the early years of their marriage, they lived in Chicago where Harold had been stationed for the Army.  Following his discharge, they returned to South Dakota and lived in Doland until moving to the Booze farm near Cottonwood Lake.  They built a new home in 1974 about a ½ mile east of the old farmstead.  Both Joan and Harold remained in this home until their passing.

Joan was a housewife (“and proud of it!”) and mother to their four children. She loved living in the country and often enjoyed walking outdoors.  Her interests included music (playing the organ), reading, embroidery, spending time with family, and eventually caring for her beloved dog, Molly.

Joan is survived by her children: Deena (Robert) Bruening of Tulare, SD, Leslie (and special friend Patty Ewing) Booze of Parkston, SD, Tim (Willette) Booze of Redfield, and Cyndi (Mike) Miller of Aberdeen, SD; her grandchildren: Craig (Trish) Bruening, Bryan (Stacey) Bruening, Jackie (Jason) Lee, Zachary (Krystal) Booze, Rachel (Lance) Fliehe, Jennifer Hunt, and Cory Miller; and her great-grandchildren: Braden, Brielle and Brycen Bruening, Tenley and Trigg Bruening, Hayvenn and Kipp Schroeder, Zoey and Evie Booze, JD Lee, Haiden and Henlee Fliehe, and Marley Hunt.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold; her parents Kenneth and Ester; her 4 sisters: Leona Mason, Alberta Moeller, Della Fertig, Connie Frost; and Jason Hunt (husband of granddaughter Jennifer).
