Joan Kay Farnham was born on April 21, 1942, in Redfield, SD, to Lyle and Adeline (Bowne) Christenson. She spent her childhood with her family on the family farm at Spottswood, SD. She attended Tulare Public School, graduated in 1960, and then attended Stewart’s School of Hairstyling in Sioux Falls.

On May 26, 1961, she married Rolland Farnham in Tulare, SD. Together, they were blessed with three sons. Joan was a beautician for 48 years. Joan was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. Family was very important to her. She proudly attended every event of her children and grandchildren for the last 60 years. She enjoyed traveling with the love of her life, Rolly, on cruises, bus trips, spending time at riverboat days, and more. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and baking apple pies, cakes, and sweet breads in retirement. She loved opening her home to everyone, including coffee time with her hair ladies, and especially hosting her family at Christmas.

Joan is survived by her loving husband, Rolly, and her three sons: Todd, of Yankton, SD, Tal (LaRee), of Elkton, SD; Brett (Leann), of Mitchell, SD. She was also survived by seven grandchildren: Lacie, Leslie, Austin, Megan, Trevan, Brady, and Erin; four great-grandchildren, and one on the way.
