Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 9, at the Redfield Methodist Church in Redfield.  Pastor Melissa Rowenhorst will officiate.  After a time for lunch and fellowship in the church hall, her committal service will take place at Rockham Grace Cemetery in rural Rockham, South Dakota.

The funeral will be live-streamed through a link on the funeral home’s website below Gwen’s obituary.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home (www.hykefuneralhome.com).

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be directed to the Redfield Methodist Church (1326 W 1st Street, Redfield, SD, 57469) or Eastern Star Home (PO Box 150, Redfield, SD, 57469).

Born on January 24, 1937, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to Lewis and Merle (Olson) Goldin, Gwen’s life was marked by remarkable achievements and a deep commitment to her community.  She graduated from Brentford High School in 1955, where her leadership shone through her roles as class president, newspaper editor, homecoming queen, and valedictorian.  She began her professional life at the First National Bank of Aberdeen.

Gwen met the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Jackson, at a dance at Armadale.  They married on June 17, 1956, at the Scandinavia Lutheran Church near Stratford.  Together, they built their life on the Jackson Family Farm near Zell, raising three sons:  twins Korey and Kerry, and Kraig.  Gwen was a dedicated and long-time member of the Rockham United Methodist Church, actively serving in various leadership capacities, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and contributing to the United Methodist Women.

Gwen was deeply involved in her community.  She was active in the New Deal Extension Club and the Rockham Readers Club.  Her global perspective led her to support Redfield’s American Field Service (AFS) student exchange program, hosting several exchange students in the 1970s.  She also served as a Hand County 4-H leader and was a long-standing member of the Rockham American Legion Auxiliary.  Her family’s recognition as FmHA’s District “Farm Family of the Year” in 1972 was a source of pride, and she was personally honored as “Mother of the Year” in 1984 by the Redfield Professional Women and Jaycees.

Professionally, Gwen worked for Norwest Bank in Redfield for nearly a decade before beginning her federal career with the USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA).  She was a passionate advocate for the Redfield Community Concert Association, serving on its board, and dedicated her time to the Women’s Crisis Center.  She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

In 2009, Gwen and Dick moved to Redfield, joining the Redfield Methodist Church.  Gwen embraced travel and learning about the world, embarking on memorable adventures with Dick, family, and friends to Europe, Thailand, and South America, and cherishing visits with her sons and their families across the US and Europe.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Richard; three sons:  Korey (Tana Holcomb), Kerry (Kim Galbraith), and Kraig (Jennifer Dangel); grandchildren:  Katrina, Matthew, Bethany, Thomas, and Sarah; and one great-grandchild, Charlotte.  She is also survived by her brother, Gaylon (Gayle) Goldin, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
