The funeral service for Donald and his wife, Arlis, who died in 2021, will be held in May of 2024 with the assistance of Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield, SD (www.hykefuneralhome.com).

Don was born on May 25, 1929, to Russell and Margaret Bacon and grew up on a farm and attended school in Northville. After graduation from high school, Don enrolled in Radio School in Minneapolis, MN.

Don married Arlis Kramer on May 27, 1951, in Redfield.  Don served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, which included a tour in Korea during the Korean War.  He was stationed at Kumhwa Valley, located north of the 38th parallel, and served in the KMAG Signal Section, 9th ROKA Division.

After his service in the Army, he and Arlis purchased their farm near Northville, where they raised their family and lived until they recently moved to Aberdeen.  Don drove school bus for Northwestern School for many years and enjoyed all the young people who rode with him.

Faith and Family were most important to Don.  He was an active member of the Methodist Church in Northville and Northwestern Church in Mellette.  He was an active member of the American Legion Post in Northville, VFW Post in Redfield, and Northville Community Association.

Don enjoyed fishing and pheasant hunting with friends and family.  He loved camping and spending the winters in Arizona after retirement with Arlis.

Don is survived by his sons Terry (Gail) Bacon and Randy (Michelle) Bacon, all of Aberdeen, son Kent (Lynn) Bacon of Smyrna, DE, and daughter Darlene Bacon of Florence, AZ.  He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Arlis, his parents, and his brother.
