The Spink County Coalition held a Community Resource Fair on Mon., Feb. 24th at the Armory. The purpose of this event was to show residents what services and organizations are available in the area. Informational tables were set up throughout the gym. Many offered small bits of swag, or sheets of information.
A craft table for kids was set up in one corner. A light dinner was served in another. Exhibit tables were set up. These included:
Parks and Rec, Chamber of Commerce, Carnegie Library, City of Redfield, Community Memorial Hospital and Clinic, and Redfield Depot; Tobacco Prevention; Grow Spink and Spink County Daycare; Redfield Discovery Program; North Eastern Prevention Resource Center; Redfield Ministerial Association; Ginny’s Safehouse; Redfield After School Program; Redfield Ambulance; SD Developmental Center; Northeastern Mental Health Center; Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired; Department of Human Services, Division of Developmental Disabilities; Reflections Recovery Home; Lions Club; American Foundation for Suicide Prevention; and Spink County Coalition.
Christina Fink of the Spink County Coalition led the organization of the event. She said that about 50 people came out, either to exhibit or to patronize. Residents of all ages could be seen in the gym. Talk of civic engagement was heard.

The following is a partial list of services. Spink Co. Coalition sponsored community events, youth preventative projects, and gives residents information about what services are available to the community. AFSP has local reps but the chapter is based in Aberdeen. Lions Club takes charitable donations of glasses. They sponsor vision screening for youth. “Nothing goes to waste.” two member said in regard to the glasses donation drive. SBVI works with those with vision loss, to help with employment, with enabling people to stay in their homes, and with travel. Northeastern Mental Health Center’s Redfield office sees all ages. A sliding fee scale is available. “No one is turned away.” the representative said. The Ministerial Association reps said “We’re here to help.” Vaping Sucks Tobacco Prevention had gross displays. These demonstrated what tobacco use could do to the body.
The resource fair may become a yearly event. Perhaps next year it will be on a less windy day. More than a person said that they were surprised by all the services available to the community.
