Chili Cook-Off Held in Tulare

On Sat., Jan. 11th, a chili cook-off fundraiser was held at the Blue Room bar in Tulare. Eleven contestants vied for prizes. The winners were: Ricky Stockman, Spiciest; Tom and Kristi Martin, Judges Choice; and Casey Stoner, Favorite Vote.
Dawsyn Otto, who helps bartend sometimes, and also runs the Facebook page, said “We raised over $2,000 in 2 hours.” The event was set up to raise funds to support Trey Werdel, who has Hodgkin Lymphoma. Otto explained how the fundraiser came about: “Thomas and (I) wanted to do something fun for a good cause – and Trey is Thomas’ cousin – so we thought ‘Why not make a fundraiser and get the community involved?’”
Thomas Shantz and Dawsyn Otto organized the event. Shantz is a Blue Room employee. The owners of the Blue Room in Tulare are Clay Jens and Austin Binger.
