Bernard Francis Jungwirth Sr., 76 of Redfield, SD, passed away peacefully at Avantara Redfield on Sunday, March 26, 2023. Bernard’s wishes were to be cremated with a Celebration of Life with no formal funeral services. His Celebration of Life will be Saturday, July 8, 2023, with the time and place to be announced at a later time.    Bernard Francis Jungwirth Sr., 76 of Redfield, SD, passed away peacefully at Avantara Redfield on Sunday, March 26, 2023. Bernard’s wishes were to be cremated with a Celebration of Life with no formal funeral services.    Bernard was born December 10, 1946, in Redfield, SD to Charles and Anna (Weiland) Jungwirth. He grew up in the Redfield area graduating from Redfield Public School.

   He married the love of his life Janice Way on June 26, 1966, in Redfield, SD and they went on to have nine children. They moved to many places including Washington and California before moving back to Redfield. He worked several different jobs throughout adulthood including working a print press and as a dorm parent at SDDC-R until he retired. 

   Bernard had many hobbies that he loved including fishing and hunting in which he passed on this love to his children and grandchildren. He also could be found in his workshop doing woodwork he made a booster seat for each of his grandchildren. He loved to go out “hunting” for snapping turtles.  His family was very important to him and he would go to any sporting activities or concerts that he could make it to. 

   Bernard is survived by his children Bernard (Carol) Jungwirth Jr. of West Covina, CA and their children JR and Chris Gomez;  Michael (Tonja) Jungwirth of Redfield, SD  and their children Johnathon of Brookings, Amelia and Ian of Redfield; Laura (Clinton) Wagemann of Aberdeen, SD and their children Nathaniel of Redfield, SD, Jeremy, Isaac, and Ann of Aberdeen, SD; Anna (Dallas) Ellenbecker of Aberdeen, SD and their children Kalyn (Keylan) Hunsucker of Belle Fourche, SD, Christenn Krahl of Aberdeen, SD, Kelsee (Nathan) Nash of Faulkton, SD, Austin Ellenbecker of Aberdeen, SD and Kayden Ellenbecker of Aberdeen, SD; and Shelly (Merlyn) Perry of Statesville, NC and their children Brandon (Sandra) of Hillsdale, MI and Tiffany (Jean-Luc) Carmona on Statesville, NC, and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Shirley and Sharon Jungwirth of Redfield and Carol (Gary) Case of Sadelia, MO, and many nieces and nephews.

   Bernard was preceded in death by his loving wife Janice in 2021, son Charles, a set of triplets that were stillborn, his parents, sisters Donna, Jean Bode, and Anna Marie Modrell, and brothers John, Roger, Roland, Robert, and Richard.
