2023 Redfield Parade of Lights

Posted

Agtegra won the 2nd annual revival of Redfield’s Parade of Lights with its “Charlie Brown Christmas” display.

A good-sized crowd lined downtown awaiting the light parade. Some brought chairs while others sat in vehicles. A lot of people were wrapped in blankets. Many a small firepit illuminated eager faces. The weather was calm, and not too chilly.

The parade began with a loud honk and bright lights from a Redfield fire truck. Excited children watched eagerly.

Entries included, in no particular order:

  1. Robert Schultz on a red tractor
  2. Agtegra’s “Charlie Brown Christmas,” which featured a Charlie Brown cut-out, Snoopy inflatable, and a spinning tree
  3. Redfield FBLA’s “Santa’s Workshop,” featuring Santa
  4. Keller Repair’s “Clark Griswold Station Wagon,” featuring a lighted tree tied atop it
  5. Redfield Food Center’s “Hawaiian Christmas,” featuring inflatable sharks and flamingos

  14. Pheasant City Laundromat’s illuminated green tractor

The crowd seemed pleased, aside from wanting more. Redfield Chamber of Commerce President Jill Tomsha said “We plan on doing it every year. We will keep promoting, and hope to get more people and more downtown businesses involved.”

Chamber Secretary/Treasurer Parish Mechling said “It was a good lineup, with a lot of people.”

Redfield area residents and businesses were welcome to join the parade, which was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. The winner was determined by secret judges, who looked for creativity and festivity.

Hot chocolate was available on both sides of Main Street. A handful of businesses were open. “The idea is to get people into town, to see what they (downtown stores) have.” Tomsha said. “They’re probably not going to buy a mattress during the Parade of Lights, but they can see what’s available. They can come back for the businesses.”

The winner received $25 in Chamber Bucks, redeemable at local businesses.

Next year, according to Mechling, there will hopefully be a trophy to be passed between successive winners.
