Villa Ione (Barton) Moeller

Villa Ione (Barton) Moeller, 88, of Redfield, SD, passed away at home on Friday, December 23, 2022.  Following her wishes, cremation has taken place and services will take place at a later date.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield (www.hykefuneralhome.com).

Villa Ione Barton was born on May 18, 1934, in Mellette, South Dakota.  She lived in Mellette with her parents, Cynthia and James Barton, until she married Edward Allen Moeller on February 11, 1956.

She attended school in Mellette until her graduation in 1953.  She participated in many school activities such as the Mixed Chorus, Glee Club and as a soloist.  She loved music, singing, and dancing.

After her marriage, Villa and Allen moved to Redfield.  Villa worked for the James Valley Nursing Home for 22 years.  After her retirement, she became a foster grandparent at the Head Start facility in Redfield.  She loved the little ones, and they loved her.  She still saw some of these little ones all grown up with families of their own living in Redfield.

Villa and Allen had a passion for dancing with each other.  She also was an avid bowler and was a member on many leagues throughout the years.  She was a very good bowler and was awarded many trophies.  Going to tournaments with her lady’s team was something she looked forward to—they always had a great time.

Spending time with family was very important to her.  She loved that her house was the gathering place for family holidays and events.  She loved cooking and baking for her family.

Coffee dates with her friends was a great pastime for her, whether at Leo’s or at her house.  She enjoyed keeping up with her family and friends on the phone as well.

Villa is survived by her children Lana Francis, Steve (Patty) Moeller, Sandy (Jim) Rikard, Lisa (Russ) Franks; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters: Linda Brunn, Dorothy Hahn, and Donna Palmer; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Allen; sister Pauline Schoniger; granddaughter Jessica Moeller; grandson Levi Zens; great-grandson Teague Miller; son-in-law Joseph Francis; and brothers-in-law: Wayne Schoniger, Gary Brunn, and Dave Hahn.
