Vehicle owned by Tulare man crashes in Hand County, results in serious injury

News release contributed to by the SD Highway Patrol and Hand County Sheriff's Department

On September 9, 2018, just after 11a.m., a passerby located an overturned vehicle on 188th Street just west of 367th Avenue (or 10 miles north and 3.5 miles east of St. Lawrence).
A 2005 Ford F-150 owned by Bradley Bruns, of Tulare, was going East and ran off the road, struck an approach and came to rest in the North ditch.
The sole occupant, Skyler T. Sharp (27), formerly of Wessington, was trapped in the vehicle.  The Miller Fire Department responded and extricated the occupant who was then transported by Hand County EMTs to Avera-Hand County Memorial Hospital and subsequently air lifted to Sioux Falls with serious, non life-threatening injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt. The accident was in the road construction area where the Hand County Highway Department is resurfacing the roadway.

Speed appears to be a factor in the crash.  The South Dakota Highway Patrol and Hand County Sheriff are investigating.  The Miller Police Department assisted with the occupant once he reached the hospital.
Reports of methamphetamine being present in the vehicle have not been confirmed. Charges are pending and the case is still under investigation.
