The Amazing Race returns to Redfield!

By Shiloh Appel

On Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 3p.m., the Amazing Race will again return to Redfield! Beginning in the empty lot across the street from the old Redfield Wesleyan Church, the race will take youth through the city and challenge their mind, strength and endurance.
In 2011, the Redfield Wesleyan Church introduced an Amazing Race for youth in Redfield based upon the hit reality TV show by the same name in which teams of two people race around the world stopping at various "pit stops" and completing tasks in order to be the first team to make it to the finish line.
In the 2011 Redfield version of the game, contestants raced between pit stops within the city of Redfield. The contestants braved such tasks as finding bubble gum buried in a bucket of powdered sugar — using nothing but their mouths; tossing hula hoops over anchored balloons bobbing in the wind to earn points; Eating food from mystery bags; digging through a pool of mud and water to find answers; and much more. At the end of the race, all contestants were treated to a cook-out meal, a speaker, prizes and a bonfire. The race was such a hit that it was brought back in 2012 and 2014 with new and different challenges and tasks introduced each year.
Just as in years past, the 2017 Amazing Race is completely free-of-charge to all participants. For more details, or to volunteer to help in any way with the 2017 Amazing Race, call the Redfield Wesleyan at 605-302-1001. Details will also be posted on the Redfield Wesleyan website at www.redfieldwesleyan.org as September 9th approaches.
