Stanley "Stan" Christensen, 67, of Ashton, SD, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, SD. His celebration of life will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 18, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. Pastor Adrian Timmons will officiate.

Stan's service will be live streamed on the funeral home's website below his obituary.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home (www.hykefuneralhome.com).

Stan was born September 26, 1955, in Huron, SD, to Robert “Bob” and Dorothy Christensen. He spent his childhood between Huron and Lead, SD. He had many childhood memories he liked to talk about, but he especially took great pride in working alongside his father in the mines.

He met and married Kathy (Nelson) Ludwig. To that union, Angela and Sara were born. In 1993, he married Terry Christman. Terry blessed Stan with two bonus children, Chad and Heidi. Stan was a hands-on guy and had many different professions in his life.  He is most remembered for his years working at the South Dakota Developmental Center and Redfield Equipment prior to him retiring early due to ill health.  He brought and received joy being around others.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand any way he could.  Stan enjoyed spending time with his family, being at the races, tinkering on this or that, and especially his times at Cottonwood Lake with those he loved.

Stan is survived by his loving wife Terry Christensen, of Ashton; and children: Angela (Travis) Rice of Rockham, SD; Sara (Brock) Klapperich of Conde, SD; Heidi (Chris) Kohrs of Redfield, SD; and Chad Hindberg of Tea, SD.

Stan was blessed with nine grandchildren: Olivia and Addyson Rice, Grayson and Kora Klapperich, Jacob and Caleb Clark, and Kimberlee, Hayden, and Emmalee Hindberg. Stan was also blessed with one great-grandson Brantley Clark, son of Caleb.

He is also survived by his sister Sandra (Kyle) Roberts of Coon Rapids, MN; brother Sam “Butch” (Val) Christensen of Federal Way, WA; sister Bonnie (Chad) Palmer of Huron, SD; brother Jack (Sharon) Christensen of Mitchell, SD; and sister Rhonda Ringheimer of Huron, SD; as well as many special nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Stan is preceded in death by his parents Dorothy and Robert Christensen, stepmother Shirley Christensen, mother-in-law Ada Christman, two siblings: Stephen and Sharlene Christensen, and many others that were special to him.

Stan was a loving soul whose life and legacy will live on through all those lucky enough to have known him.
