Redfield Pheasants Capture Region Wrestling Title

The Redfield Pheasants won the Region 1B wrestling title held in Redfield on February 16th amassing 164.5 points on the day. The grapplers would qualify 7 wrestlers for the State B Wrestling Tournament in Rapid City on February 22nd and 23rd. Those qualifying are:
Region Champion, Riley Whitley 106#. The 3 seed at state with a  season record of 32-3
Region Champion, Bradyn Robbins 120#. The 2 seed at state with a season record of 22-2
Region Champion, Carsten McNeil 138#. The 4 seed at state with a season record of 31-5
Region Champion, Mason Fey 145#. The 4 seed at state with a season record of 34-4
Region Third Place, Dylan Whitley 160#. Enters state with a season record of 25-6
Region Fourth Place, Drew Masat 182#. Enters state with a season record of 21-10
Region Champion, Barrett Wren 195#. The 2 seed at state with a season record of 30-3
The Pheasants entered the tournament with 12 wrestlers. Jacob Fehlman, 113# would lose a heartbreaker in overtime, in the match to qualify for state. Hopefully this will stick with Jacob and keep him continually improving to take the next step in the post season.  Corbin Schwartz, 152# was in a stacked weight class and would also come up short. Corbin beat many state meet qualifiers and place winners during the year. Things just did not go his way on this day and he now has some incentive for the coming years. Sean Domke stepped in to the 170# weight class for injured wrestler Trevor Frost. Sean did a nice job finishing the year and also has something to look forward to in the off season. Michael Carr stepped up at Region time and manned the 220# weight class and rounding out the roster was Colin Frericks at heavyweight.
With a mix of new and experienced wrestlers the team did a very nice job holding off a charging Sisseton team. Heading into the placing rounds the Pheasants were holding a slim 7.5 point lead but the grapplers had a very good placing round only losing 1 of the 7 matches on the night.
