Redfield Fire Department tests potential new fire truck

On Wednesday, March 15th, the Redfield fire department tested setbacks with a potential new firetruck at various buildings in Redfield. The truck, provided by Rosenbauer in Lyons, South Dakota, has an approximate cost of $750,000. With a 75-foot midmount platform, the truck is prepared to reach the highest level of very structure in Redfield. The truck is also made to hold a 2,000 gallon water tank, but the tank was not present as the truck was tested in its simplest form Wednesday.  “This is the skeleton, if you will,” said Heiman Fire Equipment sales representative, Brian Gaalswyk.

Gaalswyk gave city council members and Redfield firefighters details about the workings of the truck as they tested the controls.  “This is a smart Ariel. It has soft-touch controls,” said Gaalswyk. “The apparatus won’t let you do anything that will put you in a danger position.”  City Finance officer, Adam Hansen, and two city council members were present, along with the Redfield Fire Department, for the truck demonstration.
