The Redfield 13/14 Junior Teener team qualified for the State Tournament with a second-place finish at the Regional Tournament in Clark this past week. Redfield would battle with Spearfish in their first game of the tournament. Outside of one poor inning, the team played a solid defensive game and came away with a 16 to 10 victory. Jaxson Frankenstein and Peyton Osborn shared the pitching duty for the games and kept the Spearfish bats in check. Dylan Whitley lead the team in hitting, as he finished with two singles. Redfield’s second game of the tournament would be against WIN (Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern). These teams have battled numerous times the past year, with each game being very competitive. This game would be no difference. WIN came away with an extra-inning victory 9 to 8 in a back and forth affair.  WIN stuck first with 2 runs in the first inning. Redfield responded with 4 runs in the top of the fourth, the lead only lasted until the bottom of the fifth when WIN added two more runs for a tie ballgame. WIN plated 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 8 to 4 lead going into the last inning. Redfield battled and plated 4 runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game. WIN would score in the bottom of the eighth for the 9 to 8 victory. Peyton Osborn, Jaxson Frankenstein, and Camden Osborn did the pitching for Redfield. Camden Osborn lead the team in batting with 2 solid base hits.  Redfield’s third game of the tournament against Mobridge would decide which team would make it to State. In typical Redfield fashion, they could not play a game without some excitement. Redfield would score 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win 13 to 12. Aiden Spotanske walked with bases loaded to bring home Peyton Osborn for the winning run. Camden Osborn and Easton Millar did the pitching for Redfield. Peyton Osborn lead the hitting for the team with a double and a single. In the Championship game, Redfield would once again battle with WIN. WIN would prevail in the back and forth game with a 11 to 6 victory. Easton Millar, Corbin Schwartz, and Owen Osborn would share the pitching duties. Peyton Osborn would lead the team again in hitting with 2 solid singles. The team will start State Tournament play against Dakota Valley at the noon game Friday in Milbank.
