Our Savior's Lutheran Church participates in 'God's work, Our hands Sunday'
Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Redfield, SD was one of the congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) participating in “God’s work. Our hands Sunday” on Sept. 10, 2017. Across the country, thousands of ELCA members engaged in service work to make a positive change in their communities, to build and deepen relationships and to share God’s love.
Members of Our Savior’s Church partnered with the City of Redfield to paint a picnic shelter at Hav-a-rest, weed gardens at the City Park, Legler Park, and around the Welcome to Redfield signs. Members also tied fleece blankets for the pediatric patients at the Community Memorial Hospital, made quilts for Lutheran World Relief and hosted a free community meal.
“The members of Our Savior’s came together to express our commitment to our community. It was beautiful to see everyone working together to serve others. We will continue to look for ways that our congregation can accomplish God’s work through our hands, and we hope to plan other projects throughout the year” says Dixie Jungwirth, a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
For more than 25 years, the ELCA has been a church deeply rooted in faith, emphasizing the saving grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, and in sharing its passion for making positive changes in the world. The ELCA is one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, with more than 3.8 million members in nearly 10,000 congregations across the 50 states and in the Caribbean region. The ELCA’s roots are in the writings of the German church reformer, Martin Luther, and Lutherans are celebrating 500 years of Reformation in 2017.
