Maxine (Micky) Schurch, age 71, of Redfield South Dakota and Casa Grande Arizona lost her 12 year battle with cancer on March 6, 2022. She was born in 1950 to Laurence and Florence Ellis in Wakefield Nebraska, the 6th of 7 children. Micky grew up in north central Nebraska and graduated from High School in Ponca Nebraska. After graduation Micky worked for different companies in the Sioux City Iowa area. She then worked for the State of South Dakota as a Motor Carrier Inspector, a 911 Operator for Clay and Spink Counties, and a trucking dispatcher for Stan’s and Mid States Trucking.
She married Kevin Schurch in September of 1987. They made their home in various areas in South Dakota and most recently, Casa Grande Arizona. Micky was a member of the Redfield Wesleyan Church and deeply loved Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She had the privilege of going on Mission trips to Argentina and Cambodia. She unconditionally loved her family and loved family gatherings. She had the gift of being able to talk and make friends with anybody. Her other interests were camping, making crafts, flea markets, Spink County Relay for Life and most recently, wintering in Arizona. Micky and Kevin would transport prisoners throughout the United States. Micky was always kind hearted to them and kept feeding them on the trip with food she packed for them.
She was well known for her “World Famous Potato Salad”. She also cherished the time spent with her adopted sisters, Marilyn Fuerst, Darla Jacob, Lena Kleinsasser and Nancy Wiedmeier. She also shared a special bond with her adopted brothers; LeRoy Fuerst, Mike Kleinsasser and Dennis Wiedmeier. A memorable time in her life was getting to know Jim Ed Brown and Jimmy Fortune who put on concerts in Redfield, and yes they got some of her potato salad.
Micky was proceeded in death by her parents, Laurence and Florence Ellis; Sisters Phyllis Niebuhr; Marilyn Ellis; Brothers Melvin and Deryl Ellis.
She is survived by her husband Kevin; Children; Traci Holmquist (Eric), Shelly Jones (Jay), Shauna Abbas (Alwade), Michael McDonald, LeAnn Moser (Chet), Scott Schurch (Jenna), David Schurch (Kayla), Michael Schurch (Tosha), Brothers: Bill Ellis, Denny Ellis (Connie), and adopted daughter’s Polly McDonald and Sandra Harford. 23 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren.
Micky’s Celebration of Life service will be held at Redfield Wesleyan Church on May 7th 2022 at 1030 AM. In Lieu of flowers, make any donation’s to the American Cancer Society or the Redfield Wesleyan Mission Fund in Micky’s name. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
