Marjorie Gallup passed away January 16, 2023, at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield, SD.  Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield is in charge of arrangements (www.hykefuneralhome.com).

Marjorie Ann Leesch was born in Redfield, SD on November 14, 1935, to Emil H. and Marie (Lunka) Leesch of Ashton, SD.  She attended the Leesch Rural School near Ashton and graduated from Redfield High School in 1953.

She met Richard Gallup of Redfield in 1952 and they were united in marriage on July 15, 1953. They then moved to California before returning to Redfield in 1954.

Marjorie was employed by Community Memorial Hospital, the Spink County Assessor, and the Spink County Auditor's Office before becoming a Caseworker with the State Department of Social Services in Redfield in 1972.  She retired in 1998.

Marjorie was a member of the United Church of Christ Women’s Fellowship, the Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Spink County Retirees, and the SD Peace Officers Auxiliary. She served terms on the Redfield Housing and Redevelopment Board, the Spink County Redevelopment Board, and the Turtle Creek Federal Credit Union Board.  Marjorie was instrumental in forming the Redfield Beautification Group and spearheaded the Planters on Main project. She organized each of the class reunions for the Redfield Class of 1953.

Marge enjoyed working on the Leesch family genealogy, which led her and Dick to her father's homeland, Luxembourg. Marge and Dick also traveled in Europe, Hawaii, and Jamaica, as well as extensively across the United States.

Marge and Dick also enjoyed time at their Cottonwood Lake cottage, and spending time with family.

She is survived by three children:  Beverly Marcene North, Aberdeen, SD; Daniel (Carolyn) Gallup, Aberdeen, SD; and Mary (Bradley) McIntyre, Casselton, ND. One sister, Rosemary Hammond, Sioux Falls, SD. Three grandchildren Robert (Ashleigh) Gallup, West Des Moines, IA; Katie (Mitchell) Crawford, Aberdeen, SD; and Lauren (Zachary) Prante, Casselton, ND. Four great-grandchildren, Olivia and Miles Crawford and Nathan and Lyla Prante; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marjorie's husband, Richard, passed away just hours after her on the same day. Dick and Marge were married for 69 ½ years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers-in-law: Clifford Hammond, David (Joan) Gallup, Thomas (Letha) Gallup, and niece Hayley Hammond.

A celebration of life will be held in Redfield on July 15, 2023, which would have been their 70th wedding anniversary.  More details about the celebration will be available closer to the date.
