Leone Silver Mitchell Haux, 84, passed away Tuesday October 16, 2018 at the Redfield Care and Rehabilitation  Center in Redfield.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Redfield. Father Tom Anderson will officiate.  Following a time of lunch and fellowship, interment will be at 1:15
p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Clark, SD with Father Daniel Smith officiating.

Visitation will be Friday October 19, 2018, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. A prayer service will follow at 7:00 p.m., with memory sharing. Family will be present during this time to accept condolences.

Leone Yvonne Silver was born January 14, 1934 in rural Ipswich, SD to Charles Henry Silver and Bertha May  (Peterson) Silver.  She attended grade school in rural Ipswich where reading, spelling, and art were her favorite  subjects.  Leone graduated from Leola High School and attended Northern State Teachers College, where she studied elementary teaching.  While in college, Leone met, and married Howard Mitchell on May 31, 1955. Leone taught elementary grades at several schools throughout South Dakota.

While living in Waubay, SD, Carolyn joined their family. After the death of her husband Howard, Leone continued to teach school in Timber Lake, SD. While in Timber Lake, Leone wrote articles for the town’s history book, was co-editor for the quarterly historical newsletter, and served on a scholarship committee.

On January 2, 1993 Leone married Delmer Haux. Leone and Delmer lived at Cottonwood Lake, and later moved to Redfield.

She enjoyed traveling, painting, reading, and truly enjoyed her retirement years.

Leone’s greatest accomplishments were raising her daughter Carolyn and being a loving wife.  Survivors include her husband Delmer, daughter Carolyn (Gordon) Mitchell Bosse, Grinnell, IA, step-son Anthony Haux, Bloomington, MN and grandchildren Allyssa Bosse, Scott Bosse, Luke Haux and Justin Haux, and her brother Charles Silver, Cottage Grove, MN.  Leone is preceded in death by her husband Howard Mitchell, her brother George Silver, and her sister Clara Silver.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Leone’s name to Spink County Relay for Life.
