Great American Smokeout to be tomorrow

The Great American Smokeout is an annual event sponsored by the American Cancer Society (ACS) this year on Thursday, November 15. This event focuses on encouraging Americans to quit tobacco smoking. People are challenged to stop smoking for at least 24 hours assuming that their decision not to smoke will last longer, hopefully forever. Today, more than 43 million people in the United States smoke cigarettes, that is about 1 in 5 adults.

If you are a smoker or know someone who is, the following information may help a person quit:

    •    Quitting smoking isn’t easy.
    •    It takes time.
    •    And a plan.
    •    You don’t have to stop smoking in one day.
    •    Start with day one.
    •    Let the Great American Smokeout event on November 15 be your day to start your journey toward a smoke-free life.
    •    You’ll be joining thousands of smokers across the country in taking an important step toward a healthier life and reducing your cancer risk.
    •    Plus, the American Cancer Society can help you access the resources and support you need to quit. http://www.cancer.org/healthy/stay-away-from-tobacco/great-american-smokeout.html

Also, the Spink County Coalition has FREE Quit Kits with helpful tools to quit smoking or chew. Please contact Le Ann Wasmoen at 450-1385 or leann.wasmoen@k12.sd.us if you would like one for you or someone you love!
