Daelyn Ray Sanger was born April 6th, 1934, at home in Linn Township, Hand County to August and Lillian (Buchholz) Sanger. He spent his childhood and youth on the family farm near Rockham. He attended rural school and graduated from Redfield High School. He married the love of his life Joyce (Morris) Sanger on June 6, 1954. Four children were born to them, and he continued to farm for his entire life. He stayed on the farm all his 88 years until moving into the Eastern Star Home in Redfield in May of 2022.

Daelyn spent family time at the family cabin on Cottonwood Lake in the summer and took kids and grandkids to sled down “Death Hill” on the toboggan during the winters. He consistently attended his children’s concerts and school events and was proud of each of them. He taught his children to drive safely and the boys how to work farm machinery. He liked hunting deer “West River” with friends. One of the fondest memories for the grandchildren was Grandpa reading the Christmas story from the Bible on Christmas Eve and sharing holidays on the farm with extended family.

Daelyn was a member of Carlton Community Church and later, Redfield Wesleyan Church. He served each church faithfully in many capacities and enjoyed singing an occasional duet with Joyce playing the piano. He served on various boards for many years, including township, school, and church boards, and he also worked as an insurance representative for Missouri Valley Mutual Insurance. He enjoyed attending antique vehicle auctions, purchasing, restoring, and showcasing his vehicles in various parades.  He also liked steam shows and flea markets.  After the children moved out on their own, Daelyn and Joyce spent time traveling on bus tours, visiting family, and playing cards with friends.

Daelyn is survived by his loving wife, Joyce of Redfield; children: Dennis (Arleen) Sanger of Rockham, Mike (Cindy) Sanger of Redfield, Mardelle (Randy) Hoch of Lewistown Montana, and Jenelle (Jaimey) Schempp of Alcester SD. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother Duane Sanger of Redfield; sister-in-law Doris Slunecka of Sioux Falls; four nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Juanita Sanger, brother-in-law Robert Slunecka, niece Christine Garcia, and many precious friends and neighbors.
