Cramer speaks on life of Drifting Goose

By Kennedi Ford

On Thursday, August 10, Marian Cramer presented on the life of Drifting Goose at the Frankfort Community Center.
Drifting Goose, born in 1821 in Spink county, is best known for his work obstructing the construction of the railroad for approximately two years. Drifting Goose's mischief included stealing horses and clothing from the surveyors during the night. In an effort to resolve the issue, Drifting Goose was invited to Washington, DC to speak with President Hayes, where a deal was struck to trade Jim River country for Crow Creek, located in parts of Buffalo, Hughes, and Hyde counties.
The event was sponsored by the Spink County Historical Society and organized by Mary Lou Schwartz. Funds raised will be put towards the restoration of the Deiter schoolhouse.
