The South Dakota Association of Career and Technical Education is pleased to announce that Cindy Brace of the Redfield School District, has received the Lifetime Achievement and Hall of Fame Award.  She was recognized as a CTE professional for her leadership and innovations to this field over an extended period of time.
She has been described as a hands-on teacher who dedicates her time and expertise to make sure students know that their best interest is at heart.  She has taught family and consumer sciences for 38 years and serves as the local FCCLA advisor.  Career and work-based learning are implemented into her FACS program.  Community and workforce involvement are integral parts of the program.  Four of the career clusters are integrated into her program emphasizing nutrition, human development, and career education.  A vital component is the exposure her students and members have in many community activities and service-learning projects and activities.  Intregrating her CTSO, FCCLA, into the FACS coursework provides opportunities for leadership skill development with her students.  This has led to advising several district/region officers, 13 state officers, and one national officer.  Under her leadership over the years, she has advised many STAR Events who qualified for national competition at the state level.  The chapter has won many national awards.
Her involvement in her profession has included supervising eight student teachers, serving as an officer in several capacities in various organizations, piloting work-based components for teachers, co-authoring teacher manuals for our state on career portfolios and digital portfolios, and presenting multiple workshops at the local, state, region, and national level on various topics.  She still has time to be involved at the local level in her community and church.  Several awards like FCCLA Spirit of Advising, Outstanding FCCLA Advisor, Carl Perkins Community Service Award, NATFACS Pride and Distinquished Service Awards have been among her many accomplishments.

Mrs. Brace now qualifies to compete for the Region V ACTE Lifetime Achievement and Hall of Fame Award.  The Region V Conference will be held in Rapid City, SD, on April 6-9, 2022.
