Beadle County fatal crash

CARPENTER, S.D. – One man died Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash near Carpenter.

A 2008 Chevrolet Uplander mini van was eastbound on South Dakota Highway 28, mile marker 297 at 8:33 a.m. Jan.31, 2018. A GMC 3500 van was westbound at the same location when the driver lost control on the ice-covered road. The GMC vehicle slid into the eastbound lane and collided with the Uplander.

The 69-year-old male passenger in the Uplander, Gregory Johnson, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Both drivers also were injured. The 67-year-old female driver, Claudia Johnson, of the Uplander suffered serious non-life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Huron hospital. The driver of the GMC, Victoria Rosendahl, a 25-year-old female, sustained minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Watertown hospital. Both women were wearing seatbelts.

Charges are pending against Rosendahl.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Beadle County Sheriff’s Office, Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office, Spink County Sheriff’s Office, Beadle County Coroner, Clark County Coroner, Willow Lake Fire and Rescue, Clark Ambulance, Watertown Ambulance and South Dakota Department of Transportation.
