Louise was from Philadelphia.  She was born to William and Lucy Holmes on April 23, 1937, and was the oldest of four children.  She flourished in her hometown, attending Catholic school through her graduation from high school in 1955.  Louise met and married a small town guy from South Dakota – Paul Kittelson – in 1959.  Paul and Louise then moved around the country for the next twenty years, with Paul serving in the Navy.  They lived in numerous cities in Rhode Island, Tennessee, Florida, and Cuba.  During those twenty years, they were blessed with five children:  Paul, John, Anna, Linda, and Mary.

When Paul retired from the Navy in 1974, he and Louise moved the family to South Dakota, and completed their family when Katie was born. They farmed in Clark until 1983, and then moved to Redfield to open a furniture store.  Louise worked for years at the Clark Nursing Home, and then at the South Dakota Development Center in Redfield.  She found joy with bowling and the Redfield Lions Club.

Paul and Louise moved back to Clark in 2005, where Louise returned to work at the Clark Nursing Home.  She joined the Clark Lions Club, continued to bowl in Watertown up until a few years ago, and attended St. Michael’s Catholic Church.  She enjoyed visits with her family and her friends, and reminiscing about her childhood and family in Philadelphia.

Louise died at the Clark Nursing Home on May 25, 2023.  She is remembered by her children, Paul (Gayle) Kittelson of Bondurant, Iowa; Anna (Dean) Kirkeby of Clark, South Dakota; Linda (Mike) Caruso of Lakeville, Minnesota; Mary Kittelson of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and Katie (Doug) Pfeifer of Minneapolis, Minnesota; her 8 grandchildren (Jay, Hannah, Noah, Joseph, Mikal, Chase, Maddie and Elliot); and her 4 great grandchildren (Daxton, Layton, Harper, and Alora).

Louise is proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, her father and mother in-law (Marvin and Anna Kittelson), her son John, her brothers Bill Holmes and George Holmes, and her sister Diana Holmes.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Clark Lions Club, the American Legion, or St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Furness Funeral Home of Clark, SD where there is an online registry at www.furnessfuneralhome.com.
