Joyce Kay Barrington, 84, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Summit Point Memory Care Unit. In agreement with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday April 4, 2024, at Hope United Church of Christ, located at 150 9th Avenue in Hiawatha, Iowa, where the family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until the service time. A private inurnment will take place at a later date at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield, South Dakota.

    Joyce was born on January 19, 1940, in Redfield, the daughter of Lowell and Alice Mae (Smith) Kellett, as she liked to say, from “hearty German and Irish pioneer stock”. After graduating from Redfield High School, Joyce attended the University of South Dakota. She moved to Seattle, Washington and met Marshall Barrington, who was in the Coast Guard and then followed him to Cleveland, Ohio, where they were married on December 30, 1963. They moved to Kansas City in 1969, where they had a son before moving to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1973. Joyce had worked at Lindale Mall in a clothing shop and then moved on to WMT. Moving to Marion shortly after, she worked for the former Muzak Company in downtown Marion. Most recently, Joyce was employed with Rockwell Collins, as an office manager in acquisitions for several years, until her retirement in 2002. 

    Joyce was a member of Hope United Church of Christ, where she was very influential and involved in many aspects of church life, including directing and singing in the choir, playing piano and organ, and teaching Sunday School. She also was very active at First Christian Church in MacAllen, Texas, during her retirement years, being a church Elder and Deacon. Joyce also took great pride in being a Chaplin at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, for people in need for many years. She also participated and sang in the choir at Rockwell Collins. Joyce was a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved to play bridge and a mean game of cribbage, along with the love of the outdoors and a fierce competitor in golf. Her love for her family and friends was unwavering. Joyce will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

    Joyce is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, Scott Barrington of Denver, Colorado; daughter-in-law, Jan Barrington of Overland Park, Kansas; grandson, Zack Barrington of Overland Park; brother, Rodney (Kathy) Kellett of Lakewood, Colorado; and a host of extended family members, including cousins.  

    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marshall Barrington; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jack and Eva Jane Barrington; stepson, Byron “Kim” Barrington; and granddaughter Jorja Barrington.
