The service will be live-streamed on the funeral home’s website below Harry’s obituary.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield (www.hykefuneralhome.com).

Harry was born May 19, 1931, in Campbell County to David and Elizabeth (Beck) Fischer.  He attended school for eight years.  He farmed with his parents until he was inducted into the United States Army in 1952.  Harry served in Germany for 18 months and was honorably discharged in 1954.

He returned to farm again with his parents and later met Lorraine Brockel whom he married on September 26, 1954.  His parents retired and Harry and Lorraine stayed to farm.  He loved cattle and did some grain farming.  Harry decided to try a new avenue and they moved to Aberdeen where he worked at Standard Auto and K.O. Lee.  However, a rural environment stuck with him, and they moved to Hosmer, SD, purchased a farm, and later added another farm to complete it.

Harry served on the school board, elevator board, church council, centennial committee, and was a choir member.  He was a neighbor who was always ready and willing to help others. With retirement, they moved to Redfield and he participated in different areas of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.  Harry was a proud member of the American Legion for 71 years.

Harry is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Lorraine; children:  Gailand Fischer, Kim (Lenore Seitz) Fischer, and Nyla (Orman) Fixsen.  He is also survived by his grandchildren:  Jennifer (Jason) Wilkie, Tanya Fischer, Dani (Dustin) Hardy, Orman Fixsen IV, and Elizabeth Fixsen; great-grandchild Isaac Wilkie; sister-in-law Verna Fischer; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and siblings.
